our story
A residence run with care and intention.
Willowmere was founded by people who had looked for this kind of home for someone they loved — and found it did not quite exist. We set about building it.
back to homewho we are
The residence and how it came to be.
Willowmere Residence was established in the early 2010s in Damansara Heights, a quiet residential part of Kuala Lumpur. The founding came out of a personal understanding: that the care options available to ageing parents in Malaysia varied widely, and that a thoughtfully run, small-scale home could offer something different from what the market mostly provided.
We are not a large facility. That is a choice. A smaller household means each resident is known to the staff as an individual — not as a room number or a condition. It means quieter routines, consistent faces, and care that can genuinely be personalised over time.
The residence accommodates long-stay residents, offers short respite arrangements for families who need a period of rest, and runs a daytime companionship programme for older adults still living independently. Each of these services shares the same foundation: attentive, respectful support that does not try to be more than it is.
our mission
What guides us.
Dignity in the ordinary
We believe that dignity in later life is found in the small things — a meal eaten at a proper table, a garden accessible without asking permission, staff who remember how you take your tea. We attend to these things seriously.
Honesty with families
We do not promise what we cannot deliver. When a family asks about the suitability of the residence for their relative, we give a frank answer. If we are not the right setting, we will say so and try to help them find one that is.
Consistent care over time
Staff continuity matters in elder care. We employ carefully and we retain people. Our residents benefit from staff who understand their histories, preferences, and personal character.
the people here
Those who look after the residence.
Our team has been assembled over several years. We look for steadiness, patience, and genuine respect for older adults — as much as we look for qualifications.
Nur Rahmah binti Ismail
Residence Director
Nur Rahmah has worked in elder care in Malaysia for over eighteen years. She oversees the daily operations of the residence and remains the first point of contact for families with questions or concerns.
Sister Mary Sundaram
Senior Registered Nurse
Sister Mary holds a registered nursing qualification from UPM and has specialised in geriatric care for twelve years. She leads the nursing oversight of all residents and coordinates with attending physicians as needed.
Ahmad Chong Wei Lun
Care Coordinator
Ahmad manages scheduling and daily care planning for residents, and is the primary contact for families seeking updates about a relative's day-to-day wellbeing. He joined Willowmere in 2018.
how we operate
Standards we hold ourselves to.
These are not marketing points. They describe how the residence actually runs, what we submit to in terms of oversight, and what we ask of our staff.
Registered with JKM
Willowmere Residence is registered with the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (Department of Social Welfare Malaysia) and subject to periodic inspection by the relevant authorities.
Qualified nursing staff
At least one registered nurse is on duty at all times during day hours. Night cover is provided by trained care staff with a nurse available on call. All nursing staff hold valid Malaysian Nursing Board registration.
Individual care plans
Each resident has a written care plan developed in consultation with the family on admission and reviewed at regular intervals. Changes in health or behaviour are documented and discussed with families promptly.
Infection prevention protocols
The residence follows established infection prevention procedures, including hand hygiene standards, personal protective equipment protocols, and a clear process for responding when a resident becomes unwell.
Privacy and information handling
Resident health and personal records are stored securely. Information is shared only with those directly involved in the person's care, or with their nominated family contact. We comply with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Family communication
We commit to responding to family enquiries within one business day and to initiating contact when there is something significant to report. We do not wait to be asked before sharing important information.
our approach
Elder care as a considered practice.
Residential elder care in Malaysia has grown considerably as a sector over the past two decades, but the quality and character of individual homes varies widely. At Willowmere, we have always believed that a smaller residence, run by a consistent and well-supported team, offers something that larger institutional settings cannot easily replicate: familiarity, patience, and the slow accumulation of knowledge about each person in our care.
Our care model draws on the understanding that older adults, particularly those navigating health challenges or a reduced capacity for independent living, do best in environments where they feel settled. Routine matters. Relationships with staff matter. Being addressed by name, having one's preferences remembered, being offered choices rather than instructions — these are not luxuries. They are part of what makes a living arrangement bearable, and over time, genuinely good.
Willowmere serves families across Kuala Lumpur who are navigating the search for appropriate residential care for an older relative. We understand that this search is often conducted under pressure, with limited time and considerable emotional weight. We try to make our part of that process as clear and unhurried as possible. Families are welcome to visit, ask questions, and take their time. We would rather a family make a well-considered choice than a hasty one.
